Community Education Projects

We have four Educational/Demonstration Gardens on Campus that teach different components of gardening. Come visit and learn how to incorporate these principals into your home landscape.

1.  Carolina Yard at the Cottage
Demonstrates and educates to the home gardener the 12 principals of the Carolina Yard, a low impact and low maintenance landscaping program.  This garden is a certified Carolina Yard.
2.  Compost Education Garden 
The Compost Education Garden is a demonstration and education area showing 7 different types of composters which produce finished compost for RCMGA’s projects. In addition, the area contains native plants, plants for pollinators, raised beds and is a certified National Wildlife Habitat.
3.  Sandhill Children’s Garden
Provides garden-based children’s educational programs and activities through Friends of the Children’s Garden and Clemson 4-H Program.  The garden is a certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat, certified Carolina Yard and certified Carolina Fence Garden. 
(Note:  The garden is transitioning to a new site on the Clemson campus during 2018-19).

4.  Turf Grass Education Area
Educates the public on varieties of grasses suitable for the Midlands, maintains demonstration plots, signage and fact sheets on the Sandhill campus.
